China — 1967
Red Guards storm the church and seize the priest distributing Communion, scattering hosts everywhere. They lock the priest in a closet, tear down the image of the Sacred Heart, and replace it with a portrait of Mao Zedong. As the priest tries to escape the desecrated church, a little Chinese girl sneaks in, to receive the scattered hosts. Night after night she returns to receive Communion from the floor, forcing the priest to reckon with his own beliefs. Why is she risking her life for the Blessed Sacrament?
Filming in St. Louis
Filming will take place on-location in St. Louis at the St. Francis de Sales Oratory, which matches the architectural style of churches in China in the 1960s. The stunning church will be respectfully converted into a filming location that transports viewers into this incredible, gripping story, at the dawn of the Chinese Communist Cultural Revolution.
